A Commitment to Loving Jesus (2:42) 2 Corinthians 11:3 3 But I am afraid, lest as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds should be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ. Everything we do, we do for Christ! 2.) A Commitment to Loving the Church (5:30) 1 John 4:7-8; 11; 20-21 7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and ceveryone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 20 If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. 21 And this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God should love his brother also. Acts 2:42 42 And they were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer 3.) A Commitment to Loving the Lost (An urgency for the lost!) (7:51) Luke 15:1-10 1 Now all the tax-gatherers and the sinners were coming near Him to listen to Him. 2 And both the Pharisees and the scribes began to grumble, saying, "This man receives sinners and eats with them." 3 And He told them this parable, saying, 4 "What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep and has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open pasture, and go after the one which is lost, until he finds it? 5 "And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6 "And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!' 7 "I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance. 8 "Or what woman, if she has ten silver coins and loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? 9 "And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which I had lost!' 10 "In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." 4.) Commitment to Unity Philippians 2:1-2 If therefore there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, 2 make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. 5.) Commitment to Humility Philippians 2:3 3 Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself; 4 do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. 5 aHave this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore also God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. James 4:7 7 Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. James 4:10 10 Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you. James 1:19 19 This you know, my beloved brethren. But let everyone be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; Loving family of faith - part two A commitment to prayer 1 Samuel 12:23 23 "Moreover, as for me, afar be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by ceasing to pray for you; but bI will instruct you in the good and right way. 24 a"Only 1fear the LORD and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider bwhat great things He has done for you. Embracing the gifts of the Spirit, word of wisdom, word of knowledge, faith, gifts of healing, miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, tongues, interpretation of tongues 1 Corinthians 12:7-31 7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit afor the common good. 8 For to one is given the word of awisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of bknowledge according to the same Spirit; 9 to another afaith 1by the same Spirit, and to another bgifts of 2healing 1by the one Spirit, 10 and to another the 1effecting of 2amiracles, and to another bprophecy, and to another the 3cdistinguishing of spirits, to another various dkinds of tongues, and to another the einterpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, adistributing to each one individually just as He wills. 12 For even aas the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, bso also is Christ. 13 For 1aby one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether bJews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to cdrink of one Spirit. 14 For athe body is not one member, but many. 15 If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I am not a part of the body," it is not for this reason 1any the less a part of the body. 16 And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I am not a part of the body," it is not for this reason 1any the less a part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? 18 But now God has aplaced the members, each one of them, in the body, bjust as He desired. 19 And if they were all one member, where would the body be? 20 But now athere are many members, but one body. 21 And the eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you"; or again the head to the feet, "I have no need of you." 22 On the contrary, 1it is much truer that the members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary; 23 and those members of the body, which we 1deem less honorable, 2on these we bestow more abundant honor, and our unseemly members come to have more abundant seemliness, 24 whereas our seemly members have no need of it. But God has so composed the body, giving more abundant honor to that member which lacked, 25 that there should be no 1division in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. 26 And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is 1honored, all the members rejoice with it. 27 Now you are aChrist's body, and bindividually members of it. 28 And God has 1aappointed in bthe church, first capostles, second dprophets, third eteachers, then 2fmiracles, then ggifts of healings, helps, hadministrations, various ikinds of tongues. 29 All are not apostles, are they? All are not prophets, are they? All are not teachers, are they? All are not workers of 1miracles, are they? 30 All do not have gifts of healings, do they? All do not speak with tongues, do they? All do not ainterpret, do they? 31 But aearnestly desire the greater gifts. And I show you a still more excellent way. Embracing the fruit of the Spirit Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control Galatians 5:22-25 22 But athe fruit of the Spirit is blove, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, aself-control; against such things bthere is no law. 24 Now those who 1belong to aChrist Jesus have bcrucified the flesh with its passions and cdesires. 25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also 1walk aby the Spirit. 9.) Encouragement 1 Corinthians 14:3-4 3 But one who prophesies speaks to men for aedification and bexhortation and consolation. 4 One who aspeaks in a tongue bedifies himself; but one who cprophesies bedifies the church. Hebrews 10:23-25 23 Let us hold fast the aconfession of our bhope without wavering, for cHe who promised is faithful; 24 and let us consider how ato stimulate one another to love and bgood deeds, 25 not forsaking our own aassembling together, as is the habit of some, but bencouraging one another; and all the more, as you see cthe day drawing near Forgiveness Matthew 18:21-35 21 Then Peter came and said to Him, "Lord, ahow often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to bseven times?" 22 Jesus said to him, "I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to aseventy times seven. 23 "For this reason athe kingdom of heaven may be compared to a certain king who wished to bsettle accounts with his slaves. 24 "And when he had begun to settle them, there was brought to him one who owed him 1ten thousand talents. 25 "But since he 1adid not have the means to repay, his lord commanded him bto be sold, along with his wife and children and all that he had, and repayment to be made. 26 "The slave therefore falling down, aprostrated himself before him, saying, 'Have patience with me, and I will repay you everything.' 27 "And the lord of that slave felt compassion and released him and aforgave him the 1debt. 28 "But that slave went out and found one of his fellow slaves who owed him a hundred 1denarii; and he seized him and began to choke him, saying, 'Pay back what you owe.' 29 "So his fellow slave fell down and began to entreat him, saying, 'Have patience with me and I will repay you.' 30 "He was unwilling however, but went and threw him in prison until he should pay back what was owed. 31 "So when his fellow slaves saw what had happened, they were deeply grieved and came and reported to their lord all that had happened. 32 "Then summoning him, his lord said to him, 'You wicked slave, I forgave you all that debt because you entreated me. 33 a'Should you not also have had mercy on your fellow slave, even as I had mercy on you?' 34 "And his lord, moved with anger, handed him over to the torturers until he should repay all that was owed him. 35 a"So shall My heavenly Father also do to you, if each of you does not forgive his brother from 1your heart."
